The Asian Para Games are taking place in Japan, from 18 to 24 October. Para athletes are sports stars with a disability. Some cannot see well. Some use a wheelchair. Some have a missing arm or leg.

By Friday, India had won 114 medals. 30 of them were gold! India has never won so many medals at these Games before.

Golden moments

Sumit Antil won gold for throwing the javelin, a long spear. Two more Indians won silver and bronze, so all three medals were India’s! Sheetal Devi shoots arrows using her feet. She won two golds (page 9). Simran Sharma cannot see well, so she runs with a helper. She won the 200 meters race.

Many ways to win

India won medals in running, jumping, throwing, archery, shooting, badminton, table tennis and swimming.
